Sanna -also known as MOM

(4 votes)

Making the Mom quilt has been a fun adventure.  I especially enjoyed how the fur tuned out.  The likeness is "ok", but not spot on.  Here is the finished quilt, applied to a canvas with painted edges.  This allows the quilt to be hung as a picture and sort of floats off the wall.

Mom's Fur

The fur in the picture looks lush, but all I can really see is light and dark sections.  I decided to get creative and use various browns, a little silver, white and black.  Mostly I used the light and dark in the picture as a guide and "imagined" the rest.xblogfur

Mom's coat

(3 votes)

The picture I'm working from is all brown tones, but I decided to add color to my replica.  I thought of red but decided on blue for the fabric portion of the coat.  I hope that it will pick up and enhance the color of her eyes, which were very blue.

I'm enjoying working on this piece and hope it turns out well.

So-Soft by DecoArt is the paint I used. (the thing next to the brush is a sponge, which I use for large areas, like the background.)

The "Mom" Quilt

(3 votes)

As an example in my painting class, I selected a photo of my mom when she was 16 yrs.  She's very glamorous and I thought it would be fun.

I'll be leading you through the steps for the next few days if you'd like to follow along. This first photo is the day of the class where we learned to paint faces...xblog1a
