Vanishing Homestead

(5 votes)

Here's a small quilt I just finished.  It is a painted scene with thread painting and then machine quilting.  We found the scene in northern Oregon.  I was drawn to the thought that this perfect scene was once a family's dwelling place...sort of sad.2010_vanishing_xsm

For those of you who followed the "Long Road to Bethlehem" in the works - I thought you might enjoy this picture.  Greg's been training to be a trafic controller so we haven't seen them in a few months and look what they have come back with!!  They had a blessed event and we though a shot of them with the quilt they modeled for was a must have.

So here they are.here_they_are_800

Schweinfurth in New York

I've entered a new show and "Beside the Still Waters" has been accepted there.  This is a show called Quilts=Art=Quilts at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center in Auburn New York. The show will be open through early January.

Lots of memories from this location, my family boated and water skiied there when I was young.  The quilt was made with many different techniques.

Long Road to Bethlehem-TaDa!

Well it really has been a long road! - I'll bet you thought I'd never get it done...but I have.  It is complete, finished, photographed and ready to roll.  (except for a label, must get that done).

So thanks for all the encouragement and suggestions along the way.

Here it is.

My thanks to Greg and Megan Nicoll for being my models.

Long Road To Bethlehem almost done

The quilting is done (might add a bit here and there).  The binding is on. (that takes forever).  Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to hang it and take some real pictures! YES.

I also thought I'd show you what I did with the sun rays--(or God's blessings). They are two layers: one of tulle that has a gold glitter, and a yellow organza over top.  I did the stipple and the edge while off the quilt top and then attached the edges with mono poly--so the centers kind of pooch.  And they remain somewhat transparent so you can see the fabric behind.
